SLRGC - Guidance to Competitions, Matches & Events.

All Competitions and Matches shall be played in accordance with the R&A Rules of Golf, and any supplementary local rules issued by the SLRGC on the day of any golfing event. All events will comply with England Golf & WHS Rules plus any local Golf Club rules on the day as advised by the host golf club.

All entries should be made on the appropriate official entry forms as listed on the SLRGC Web-Site (Forth coming events), and must be received by the named Organiser of the event on or before the stipulated closing date for entries.

The Council had agreed at its meeting of 26th August 2025 that Competition fees will be charged at a £40 max. (Not accounting for any after golf meals). Match fee’s to be charged at £45 max (Any fees above the £45 charged to SLRGC by others may be subsidised). Fee’s will be reviewed annually when know cost from Clubs or sister Societies are forth coming.

All such entries must be accompanied by the stipulated entry fees  or paid as directed on the entry form, as confirmation of committing to playing in the event and paying the entry fee. An entrant that does not turn up to the event or give 48hrs Notice will be charged in full for the event. If the event is cancelled or postponed, fees will either be reimbursed or used as the entry fee for the change of venue or date of the replacement event.

All events will have a detailed condition of entry to supplement the general rules. Any disputes on the day of the event, shall be resolved by the Organiser plus 2 Officers (SLRGC) not withstanding an administrative error at the start of the event, their decision will be final. If necessary a Ghost may be named by the Organiser in some events to make up Pairings or Teams, however the ghost cannot win a prize, but can be named on the result sheets and on the Trophy’s.

Competition No 1  – The Spring Pairs (Members Only)

Venue – Normally played at the President Home Club.

Format – Four Ball better ball pairs Stableford Competition, best score at each hole.  If necessary a Ghost may be named to make up numbers.

Handicaps – Golfers handicap adjusted to course handicap (Slope/Rating) then 85% allowance, played from Yellow tees.

Competition No 1 a – The New Captains Event (Club Captains Non- Members)

Venue – Normally played at the President Home Club (in conjunction with the spring pairs), invited New Club Captains (Male Only) as an introduction to the Society.

Format – Four or Three ball Single Stableford Competition.

Handicaps – Golfers handicap adjusted to course handicap (Slope/Rating) then 95% allowance, played from Yellow tees.

Competition No 2 – The Blackwell President Cup (Members 4 Ball Club Team event)

Venue – To be arranged by the President & Secretary, at a LRGU Club.

Format – A Four Ball am am, Stableford event with 2 Best scores to count at each hole. The Club team can included a Past Captain, New Captain & Vice Captain (Non - Members), to play with at least 2 Society members. Other SLRGC members can join another team, to make up numbers. If necessary a Ghost may be named to make up numbers.

Handicaps – Golfers handicaps adjusted to course handicap (Slope/Rating) then 85% allowance, played from Yellow tees.

Competition No 3 – The SLRGC Championship (Members Only)

Venue – Normally at the President Home Club. (or Advised by President).

Format – A Three Ball singles Stableford event.

Handicaps – Golfers handicaps adjusted to course handicap (Slope/Rating) then 95% allowance, played from Yellow tees.

Competition No 4 – The Cheatle Bowl (Members Only)

Venue – Always played at Rothley Park GC, home Club of John Cheatle (Past President).

Format – A Three Ball singles Stableford event.

Handicaps - Golfers handicaps adjusted to course handicap (Slope/Rating) then 95% allowance, played from Yellow tees.

Competition No 5 – The Terry Watts Patrons Plate (Members & Guests 4 Ball Team)

Venue - To be arranged by the President & Secretary, at a LRGU Club.

Format - A Four Ball am am, Stableford event with 2 Best scores to count at each hole. A Team can be made up as a Club Team to include a Past Captain, New Captain & Vice Captain (Non - Members), to play with at least 2 Society members. Other SLRGC members can join another team, to make up numbers. A Team can also include Past Captains from other societies as a full team, or included with a members team. If necessary a Ghost may be named to make up numbers.

Handicaps - Golfers handicaps adjusted to course handicap (Slope/Rating) then 85% allowance, played from Yellow tees.

Competition No 6 – The Autumn Pairs (Members Only)

Venue – Normally played at the Ullesthorpe Court  Hotel & Golf Club.

Format – Four Ball better ball pairs Stableford Competition, best score at each hole.     If necessary a Ghost may be named to make up numbers.                                                                                             

Handicaps – Golfers handicap adjusted to course handicap (Slope/Rating) then 85% allowance, played from Yellow tees.

Competition No 6 a – The President Invitation Event (Secretaries/Presidents)

Venue – Normally Played at the Ullesthorpe Court Hotel & Golf Club (in conjunction with the Autumn Pairs), the Presidents invited guest as Secretaries / Presidents or Captains from sister societies to whom we hold matches throughout the year, as 2 Guests, (Restricted to Societies whom also invite SLRGC representatives to such an event), plus 2 Representatives from the LRGU. Guests will pay a fee for the Golf only, the meal after the golf will be funded by the SLRGC.

Format – Four Ball better ball pairs Stableford Competition, best score at each hole. If necessary & Ghost will be named to make up numbers.

Handicaps – Golfers handicap adjusted to course handicap (Slope/Rating) then 85% allowance, played from Yellow tees.

Competition No 7 – The Toys on the Table Event (Members & Guests 4 Ball Team)

Venue – This is a Charity Golf day, for the Toys on the Table Charity. To be arranged by the President & Secretary, at either the President Club or a LRGU Club.

Due to high numbers attending (88+), from History it is preferably better to have a Two Tee Start, or a Shot Gun Start, depending on the Club at which the event is being played. The event must also consider the Course and Catering available on the day, Pre-meals (Coffee / Bacon Baps) plus the 2 course carvery after golf meal. If only a Single Tee start the event may have to be restricted to numbers due to the day light hours. The event is normally held on the 1st Monday in December (Xmas Charity event).

Entry Fee’s include a “Childs Toys” to be put on tables ready for collection by the Charity on the day.

Format - A Four Ball am am, Stableford event with 2 Best scores to count at each hole. A Team can be made up as a Club Team to include a Past Captain, New Captain & Vice Captain or Club guests (Non - Members), to play with at least 2 Society members. Other SLRGC members can join another team, to make up numbers. If necessary a Ghost may be named to make up numbers.

Competition No 8 – The LRGU Junior Pathway Trophy (SLRGC Sponsored)

Venue to be advised by the LRGU or combination of Junior events as held around the county, and advised by the Junior organisers, as a Pathway Tournament. This event replaces the original Junior Club Captains events to allow more participates to be included. The SLRGC President with present the Trophy’s & prizes when request by the LRGU.

Format – Several Individual competitions as arranged by the LRGU as the Junior’s pathway events as held during the season on days and at clubs arranged by the LRGU. The LRGU will advise the SLRGC who has won the tour. The SLRGC as the sponsor will provide a Trophy as “The Junior Captains Championship Trophy” (To be engraved with the winner’s names but always retained by the SLRGC). The winner will receive an engraved Gold Medal “The Foxes Junior Pathway Tour Champion (Year)?”  Plus a £100 Gift Voucher from the Winners own club Pro-shop.

Handicaps – Golfers handicaps adjusted during the season for (Slope/Rating) then a % allowance depending on the format played and tee’s used.

Winter Wanders (3 or 2 events to be arranged between Nov – Jan – Feb)

Venue - To be arranged by the President & Secretary, at a Non LRGU Club.

Format – A Four Ball am am, Stableford event with 2 Best scores to count at each hole. The Club team can included a Past Captain, New Captain & Vice Captain or a Guest (Non-Members), to play with at least 2 Society members. Other SLRGC members can join another team, to make up numbers. If necessary & Ghost will be named to make up numbers.

Handicaps – Golfers handicap adjusted to course handicap (Slope/Rating) then 85% allowance, played from Yellow tees.

President Away Day / Weekend

Venue - To be arranged by the President & Secretary, at a None LRGU Club.

Format – To be confirmed by the President when announcing the event, which can be a Singles, Pairs or Team event or a Combination if held over more than 18 Holes. As this is an invitation it will be open to all members, plus guests as directed by the President.

Handicaps – Golfers handicap adjusted to course handicap (Slope/Rating) then the % allowance for the Format on the day, played from Yellow tees.

Match No 1 – v – Worcestershire GCS for The Henson Trophy

Venue - To be arranged by the respective Society Secretaries as (Home & Away event) at Alternative Years.

Format – Four Ball Match play team event (Normally 20 Golfers (10 Pairs)) per Society. Unless agreed by both Secretaries to increase or decrease numbers.

Handicaps – Golfers Handicaps adjusted to course handicap (Slope/Rating), then 90% allowance for all. Then shot differences taken from the lowest golfer(s), so lowest golfer(s) play off scratch (zero), then gives all other golfers shots (as the differences). Played from Yellow Tee’s

Match No 2 – v – Manchester GCS for The Glass Golf Ball

Venue - To be arranged by the respective Society Secretaries as (Home & Away event) at Alternative Years.

Format – Four Ball Match play team event (Normally 16 Golfers (8 Pairs)) per Society. Unless agreed by both Secretaries to increase or decrease numbers.

Handicaps – Golfers Handicaps adjusted to course handicap (Slope/Rating), then 90% allowance for all. Then shot differences taken from the lowest golfer(s), so lowest golfer(s) play off scratch (zero), then gives all other golfers shots (as the differences). Played from Yellow Tee’s.

Match No 3 – v – Norfolk GCS for The Sylvester Trophy  

Venue - To be arranged by the respective Society Secretaries as (Home & Away event) at Alternative Years.

Format – Four Ball Match play team event (Normally 20 Golfers (10 Pairs)) per Society. Unless agreed by both Secretaries to increase or decrease numbers.

Handicaps – Golfers Handicaps adjusted to course handicap (Slope/Rating), then 90% allowance for all. Then shot differences taken from the lowest golfer(s), so lowest golfer(s) play off scratch (zero), then gives all other golfers shots (as the differences). Played from Yellow Tee’s.

Match No 4 – The 4 Counties for The Alan Packer Trophy

Venue – To be arranged by the host Society Secretary (SLRGC – Derbyshire – Nottinghamshire - Northamptonshire), as hosted by each county in order (Every fourth year).

Format – An event, with 20 golfers from each society, playing in four balls (One golfer per Society). A singles Stableford event, with the top 16 Golfers scores (per Society) being aggregated together to form a total team score. The wining team to be presented with The Alan Packer Trophy. Prizes for the top 4 golfers of the wining society. Prizes for the top 3 golfers at each losing Society. Prize for the best over 75+ golfer (Age). Free lunch to be available for 2 dignitaries from each Society (Only). Coffee/Tea & main meal available for all golfers attending.
